 Leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) discussed the situation in Ukraine during their meeting in Brussels.
The discussion lasted over 2 hours, but Ukraine's opposition leaders did not attend, despite being invited.
"It is unusual to discuss such an issue for so long", EPP Vice President Jacek Saryusz-Wolski told ITAR-TASS. He did not reveal any details however, saying the information was confidential.
However, referring to the ways of overcoming the political crisis in Ukraine, Saryusz-Wolski noted that the key to the crisis solution was in Kiev and it considerably depended on how long and in what form the protest movement continued.
"Ukrainians should find a solution to this problem themselves. Maybe through elections and maybe through a new majority in the Rada (parliament)", he added.
The series of mass rallies started in late November in response to the decision of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to back out of an Association Agreement with the European Union and seek closer ties with Moscow. |
